Is that a threat?

This:

The only person who’s making shit up here out of whole cloth is you. Period. I suggest you stay out of these threads.

A diary was posted this morning about an LA Times story, saying the FBI is wrapping up the email investigation with interviews of Clinton’s staff. Of course, included with this tired old story was plenty of speculation about a looming indictment, pounded out with breathless anticipation, along with comments noting the larcenous ways of the Clinton crime family.

It was not a BNR diary. It was not an HNV diary. Many of us stay out of those diaries written in support of the candidate we do not support, out of respect for the dairist, the followers, and the candidates.

But now, there seems to be a feeling of entitlement floating about that any diary that (a) says something good about Sanders, or (b) says something negative about Clinton, is a “Bernie diary,” and the only comments permitted are those that evoke love of The Bern or hatred of Clinton.

Sorry folks, you had a good weekend, and congratulations for that.

But you don’t own the internet, you don’t own Daily Kos, and you don’t get to threaten those who disagree with you.

Of course, this threat was soon followed by a flag for this comment, the one that drew the threat:

This shit again?

yes, I know many here are actually hoping Hullary Clinton, former First Lady, former US Senator, and former Secretary of State, and Democrat, gets indicted, to make room for The Bern, but it’s not going to happen.

No matter how many times, and in how many different ways, you try to spin the story.

What’s real take-away from this story? The investigation is wrapping up, and will be done before we hit the general election. The truth is, this takes away one of your talking points, that the ever-feared (but never-happening) indictment of Clinton will loom during the general, so we must elect The Bern. And now, if you un-spin and un-hate this story, that’s gone, too.

Soon this primary will be over, and those of us who have lived through plenty of primary wars will come back and fight, together, for the Democratic nominee. And for all the “you must do THIS or we won’t support Clinton,” and “you must do THAT or we won’t support Clinton” diaries we’ve been subjected to, pretty much everybody here will get over it and support OUR nominee.

We’ve always managed to do that after the smoke clears.

But I’ve never before seen people stoop to personal threats, and we’ve never seen people act intentionally to try to get long-time users tossed from the website. I don’t know if the anonymity of flags contributes to this sense that people can act that way. I suspect it does, and believe they should go away, either by returning to HRs or giving up on community moderation.

Enough with the threats and your bullying. Write your diary. Support it, defend it from those who disagree, but don’t threaten to use your anonymous power to flag to drive people away. It not only makes you look small, it ultimately damages this site more than any primary war ever will.
