This will be very short. You might not think it worth a diary, but I’m so fucking tired of people thinking my dead relatives are toys for them to play with, to make political points.
This comment was made, by the diarist, in a diary claiming “3.2 Million New Yorkers Lost Their Voting Rights.” I’m not even going to bother with the profound stupidity of the diary. This is what set me off:
It always was an issue, that to this day seems to be getting worse, not better. Each time something like this happens it quietely gets swept under the rug. I guess no one will complain till it happens to them.
First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.
You know what, asshole? My father-in-law, who is a Holocaust survivor, who saw 15,000 go into the camp and 250 come out, isn’t your plaything. His infant cousin, shot on the spot because his father could only carry two children and there were three, is one of the souls you’re playing with. His grandmother, shot on the spot because she couldn’t walk to the train, is one of the souls you’re playing with. His aunt, shot on the spot for trying to save his grandmother, is one of the souls you’re playing with.
Six million Jews, many no more than ashes, without a grave to remember them, are the souls you’re playing with.
Gypsies, homosexuals, communists, political opponents, those are the souls you’re playing with.
Part of “never forget” is “never put up with assholes belittling what really happened to make cheap fucking political points.”
I know Kos has set down some hard new rules on flagging, and I’m not asking anybody to do anything.
But I’ll tell you this. I flagged that fucker, and will do it again. Every. Fucking. Time.
